I’m a paediatrician…. No, I’m an academic…. No, I’m a paediatrician…

I’m a paediatric trainee, just moved up to being a registrar this year.  I work part-time, because in my spare time, I’ve started a PhD.

I never wanted to be a researcher; I’ve wanted to be a paediatrician since I was in my early teens.  I had a life plan: it involved being a pure clinician and never leaving London.  Now I’m a clinical academic in the East Midlands: no idea what happened there!

Life gets confusing sometimes, especially when I’m trying to work out which I really am.  I’ve spent the past five years flitting from one to another.

Sometimes I think I have the best job in the world; sometimes I think I must be mad to be doing this.

Saying no to new opportunities feels like a waste of chances, and at least half your choices in life are serendipity anyway, right?*

A blog to work out what I’m doing, and what I’m going to be when I grow up…

*Warning: randomly made up statistic.
